A good load for mine is 25-30 grains of FFG. takes the heads from small game out to 30 yards, 47 grains is a great all around woods carry-target load but 65 grs is better when deer are in season.I use the rear tang screw and if needed, drill and tap a new whole in the tang. Some of the TC rifle and some of the Pedersoli's come with a hole already there, but of not, do not panic, it's an easy 5 minute job to drill and tap a 6/32 or 8/32 hole. BTW - TOTW has the best prices on the Pedersoli Ghost sights.The dovetails on a CVA Hawken are metric (don't know the exact size) smaller than the 3/8 sights most suppliers have. I bought the 3/8 and with a little judicious filing on them they fit the CVA dovetails. I didn't want to enlarge the dovetails in case I went back to the stock sights. I was considering using a blow torch to bend it in shape, heat the head, and then hit it mostly flat with a big ball peen hammer to try and make the match holder.Coat the entire circumference of the barrel in a generous area around the sight. Solder won't stick to the soap stone so make sure everything is well covered around the sight. Remove the clamped sight and "tin" the sight base with regular low temp plumber's solder.
